This is the cover of the second volume and second issue of the Red Bird Magazine (赤い鳥) , titled Five Colored Flowers (五色の花). It was published in February 1920. The cover art was made by Yoshio Shimizu, a western style painter and children's illustrator. He designed and created the cover art for 163 of Red Bird Magazine's 196 issues.

Red Bird Magazine was a Japanese children's literary magazine founded by Miekichi Suzuki that ran from 1919 to 1936 in Tokyo, Japan. It included original stories, foreign stories translated into Japanese, children's songs, and essays and stories that children would submit to the publication.

Red Bird Magazine was highly influential in the world of children's stories and art.
